About Lanie Franza
"Enhancing people’s lives through my art is one of the most gratifying aspects of being a painter. Movement, in dance and nature, is what my "Power and Elegance" and "Sensing Light" series are about. Capturing the grace, precision, line and rhythm of dancers celebrates their extraordinary athleticism, power and beauty. The flowing, sheer fabric accentuates the movement of the dancer. In my landscapes, the pattern of light and the placement of shapes and colors move the viewer visually through the painting. The magnificent scenery surrounding us in the Pacific Northwest motivates me to produce familiar, beautiful, engaging
landscapes."
Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Lanie studied at Stevenson Academy of Fine Arts, New York and Gage Academy, Seattle, WA. The works of JMW Turner and JBC Corot have been major influences on her style. By glazing multiple layers of oil color, she achieves the profuse, luminous quality of early morning or late afternoon light in the landscapes, as well as the airy, translucent fabric on the dancers. Her paintings have been described by collectors as rich, lush, elegant and evocative. "Vibrant color, powerful composition and a sense of movement throughout the painting are elements I use to generate interest and hold the attention of the viewer."
Since moving to Seattle in 1995, Lanie has painted numerous commissioned works. These include 34 paintings for 22 individuals and a total of 14 paintings for Zymogenetics, Seattle Science Foundation and Gonzaga University combined. Her work is included in the collections of Columbia Presbyterian Children's Hospital, New York and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Seattle, WA. Her dancer paintings appear on the wine labels of Chateau Rollat's (Walla Walla, WA) 2009 and 2010 "Artist Series" releases.
